About Us

Mark grew up in Manhattan, went to prep school in Rhode Island, attended University of Notre Dame, and then lived in Chicago for many years where he attended the University of Chicago for his MBA. In 2004, Mark moved to San Francisco where he met Mary. He currently works for Applied Materials in their Corporate Strategy group (... don't worry, you are not the only one who doesn't understand what Mark does for a living).

Mark's interests include Notre Dame Football, balancing on boards above shark infested waters, balancing on boards above snow covered mountains, competitive eating, watching Ultimate Fighter with Dr. Shen, celebrity gossip, reality television, personal investing, dominating buffets, visiting Costco, travel, red burgundies and champagnes, chicken sandwiches, and Diet Coke.

Mary is a born and raised San Franciscan who also lived in Hong Kong from ages 5-9. She studied Business at the University of California Berkeley and then moved to New York for 2 years where she worked in banking. In 2000, Mary moved back to SF and after several career changes, she spent 5 years at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, a global law firm, as Profitability Analysis Manager.  In October, Mary began working at Google as Legal Operations Manager.

Mary's interests include bargain shopping, cooking and entertaining, event planning, restaurant critiquing, wine tasting, all types of organizing, vacationing, Jimmy Choo, eBaying, competitive anything, SF University High School, being a Stepford Wife, and all things related to eating, drinking and being "Mary".

How We Met
On January 15, 2005, Mark and Mary were both at a very random house party where each of them knew one of the party hosts.  A few minutes after arriving, Mary was introduced to Mark and then the two stood in one spot and talked and laughed until the party ended.  They quickly bonded over their shared love of bad reality television.

Mark still claims to this day that he played it cool and waited days before calling Mary, but the truth is, he called to ask her out within 24 hours.  Their first date was at Three Seasons, a casual restaurant in the Marina... three years later, when Mary arrived home late one night from a business trip, Mark surprised her with champagne, roses, a beautiful proposal, and a real ring!
